The new Bentley Arnarge
Later this year the Bentley top brass will remove the covers off the new Bently Arnage limousine but some spies have been beavering away and have caught sight of the new Arnage on test in the UK. A grainy picture was taken with the mummy of all telephoto lenses by a test track, but it discovers the massive new Bentley for the 1st time.
The new Arnage will be even larger and luxurious than the current model, but will it also signal the end of the old Rolls-era personality of its predecessor? The scoop photograph recommends it'll keep the sea liner presence of today's car and those in the know in Crewe say there's lots of old-skool charm in the 2010 limo.
Crewe is desperate to put seperate the Arnage and the smaller, VW-related Continental range, so that the Arnage inheritor will be centered really closely at Rolls-Royce's Ghost family. So that the next Arnage will be an uber-expensive saloon? Bentley will reveal the new model at the 2009 Frankfurt motor show, and it is certain to cost from upwards of £250,000 when it hits the road in early 2010. VW Group is desperately hoping the current global recession will have receded by that point.
VW has done a fantastic job of bringing Bentley into the 21st century with the Continental range now the challenge is to save the hand-crafted charm of its largest model, yet subtly updated with the most recent tech and eco brains.
The platform of the old Arnage is in fact lined up to be carried over, even though in heavily altered form. The wheelbase is stretched by 150mm, extending the vehicle to around 5500mm long. That plan was denied at an early stage, as too unbecoming for a proper Bentley.
